Central Line trainA Central Line train thunders through a junction on the London Underground. Power is provided by two extra rails, one in-between and one at the side of the normal rails. Tube electrification was completed in just a few years early in the 20th Century. With the exception of a couple of small lines in Liverpool and Glasgow London is the only city in the world to have had an underground railway powered by steam. Progress and slightly later timing meant that other systems such as Paris and New York were electric from the start.
