Clifton Suspension Bridge

The project engineer for Bristol's most iconic landmark was Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He was only 24 at the time and it was his first major commission. The result is the Clifton Suspension bridge which sadly he never got to see completed. Despite the foundation stone being laid in 1831 by 1843 only the towers had been built due to financial difficulties. It was finally completed after his death and opened in 1864.

You can find out more about the Clifton Suspension bridge on the official website here.
