ENDED Solo
show by Jon Hammer
at the Brick Lane
Gallery. Jon Hammer began daubing the streets with activist punk slogans in the early eighties. On discovering the book ‘Subway Art’ in 1985 his new direction was
set. He started ‘writing’ on the Underground Railway during London’s graffiti heyday from ‘86-’88, using the tag ‘Elate’. The Acid House movement that followed blew open a channel to his subconscious, and he found his inner voice.
As the scene quickly faded he focused his spellbound attention onto canvas and began reading an array of subjects, focusing on the history of the transcendental arts. Drawing inspiration from the masters of painting and the intuition of shamanic lore he has patiently and methodically developed his natural ability. Incubating his insight and refining his technique has mutated his output into a broad array of visionary and apocalyptic themes which he describes as “mystic gems for the western snack palate and
beyond”. His scope embraces a myriad of styles, materials and techniques which continually cross-pollinate and which includes traditional oil painting and graffiti, stenciling, trompe’oiel, decollage and decalcomania

|
|
ENDED
French artist Mister MN
'Myth And Mythology' exhibition at the Grenade
Art Gallery, 212 Kensington Park Road, London, W11 1NR. The humanity of MN's paintings touch on the divine; their gaze, their gestures and the mystery that surrounds them are signs to be interpreted in order to find the key of the majesty, the dignity and the spirituality of humankind.
The presence of Egyptian goddesses, Antique muses and mythological characters fill the paintings recalling the weight of wisdom, intrinsic and universal truth and the beauty that lies behind a common vision of reality. The purist ethic and the spiritual aesthetic of MN's work are opening a new way for graffiti, expanding the art form by looking both backwards towards the origins of art, and forwards towards the future of art.
